Tajikistan preparing for the future: Tcell is to launch Central Asia’s first 5G network in Tajikistan!

Telecommunication Company Tcell was awarded the first 5G License in the territory of Tajikistan to deploy and commercialize 5G technology!

Tcell, an advanced and innovative company, has always been focused on adapting leading global technological trends and introducing them for the benefit of the people and businesses of Tajikistan. In the past Tcell was the first to Introduce 3G and 4G technologies in Tajikistan and it is continuing its trend with the adoption of the newest global mobile technology standard of the fifth generation, i.e. 5G.

What is 5G (fifth generation mobile technology)?
5G, the next generation technology for mobile data communications is to provide reliable and ultra-high-speed data communication with speeds of multiple Gigabits per second on 5G capable smartphones, tablets, and other devices, therefore, raising the bar in the quality of mobile internet services. For ordinary users, 5G is to deliver a connection that is significantly faster than the established industry-leading LTE technology. This means movies in Full High Definition can be downloaded to a mobile device in a matter of seconds.

More importantly, 5G provides tremendous opportunities for the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology representing autonomous devices and sensors connected to the network and communicating with each other without human interaction. 5G will lay the foundation for the development of smart interconnected society consisting of smart cities, smart homes, e-education and telemedicine/ healthcare and many other innovations that will make everyday life simpler and more enjoyable.  5G can provide instant “response,” in mission-critical communications, for example, during remote surgeries in medicine or self-driving cars. Some of these standards are evolving and subject to further development and adoption, and by being early adopters Tcell could provide its mark in shaping the outcomes of these initiatives.

At present, many countries around the world are working towards planning or implementing with recent launches in selected advanced countries.

Why Tcell?
Now and throughout history, Tcell has been leading innovation adopter in Tajikistan and the wider region fulfilling a promise to deliver the latest technologies for Tajikistan’s society development. Tcell became one of the first 3G operators in Central Asia, radically changing the communications market in the early 2000s. In 2014, Tcell became the first operator in Tajikistan and region to launch a 4G LTE network. Since then, Tcell invests and evolves its 4G LTE network, expanding coverage, steadily increasing capacity and speeds to enable high-speed connectivity across urban and rural areas.

Moreover, now the introduction of 5G technology will allow Tcell to create a new communication platform for Tajikistan’s society. This platform is to be utilized for the development of Tcell’s future services as well as collaboration with other service developers in the country such as government e-services, smart cities and innovative local entrepreneurs that could harness the new opportunities provided by this technology. Definitely, 5G is designed to open up a whole new platform and horizons for new digital businesses sectors emerging in Tajikistan. Tcell, as an integral part of Tajikistan’s economy, will contribute to improving the competitiveness of Tajikistan’s business in the region, and in the world as a whole.

How will 5G change our lives?
High quality video and audio content in our time has become the main factor requiring the development of the network. The high bandwidth of the 5G network is critical for streaming high-definition video, video conferencing, online gaming and virtual reality, as these applications require high speeds and image quality. However, these are not all the possibilities that 5G offers for Tajikistan. Industries, agriculture, hydropower, constructions, health, and education – all these areas need a system that provides instant transfer of vast amounts of data, automation and management of complex equipment, organizing and facilitating work. 5G usage and Internet of Things technology could make it all possible.

“In introducing any new technology there is always a big risk, but this risk is just a factor of innovation and progress. With the introduction of 5G, we see the birth of these fantastic new technological opportunities and new business models in Tajikistan.  We, as a technology company, once again fulfill our promises to customers and society to deliver reliable high-speed connections and technologies, provide the platform for future innovation”, says Tcell General Director Ozodkhon Davlatshoev. “We at Tcell believe that the surest way to predict the future is to start building it today, no matter how fantastic it may seem.”

When to expect 5G from Tcell in Tajikistan?
To fully implement and develop the 5G communication standard and services, Tcell has much work to do and make considerable investments to prepare the existing platform. Tcell has already started this investment. For 5G, it is necessary to allocate new frequencies that will enable the high speed and more extensive coverage. Besides, an infrastructure needs to be updated: 5G will work along with 4G and 3G, and smartphones will switch between networks. Also, to work in a 5G network, new smartphones supporting this standard are needed, more powerful than the existing ones. Negotiations with suppliers on the implementation of smart city and smart house projects are already held. This is a very large scope of work and a bold move, but 5G is not far off, and Tcell expects very soon to please subscribers, all Tajik people and guests of the country with the amazing possibilities of this technological breakthrough.
