Tcell and AKF open a window to the world of information technology for GBAO schoolchildren!

Tcell and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) have launched a project on schools modernization in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

The program is aimed at improving the study program in schools and providing them with an Internet connection for the implementation of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the process of learning and teaching.

The school modernization project in GBAO aims to provide dozens of schools with an Internet connection to improve the learning processes of students and the professional development of teachers. This will enable teachers to improve their skills on international educational programs online.

At the first stage of the project, Tcell equipped computer classes for two schools in the city of Khorog: secondary schools No. 2 and No. 9. In addition, Tcell provided Internet connection for these schools. About 600 students study in these schools, who can now easily work on their own skills in using modern technologies. In addition, 77 teachers teaching in these schools got the opportunity to improve their pedagogical skills and techniques.

One of the main priorities of Tcell in its social activities is to support the education sector. Dozens of Tcell's own and partner projects in the field of education annually contribute to the improvement of knowledge about the latest technologies for schoolchildren, students, young professionals, start-up entrepreneurs, and experienced experts throughout Tajikistan.

“We in Tcell gladly supported the initiative on technical modernization of GBAO schools. Considering the complex geographical location of the region, and the remoteness of many rural schools, children do not always have the opportunity to use the global network fully, as it is necessary for modern education. With access to the global network, both schoolchildren and teachers will be able to develop and learn something new together with the whole world,” says Tcell General Director Ozodkhon Davlatshoev.

“Tcell's support in the schools modernization project in GBAO shows the company’s commitment to the development of education in the country. The project will motivate teachers and students to learn and work on their skills, give them the necessary enthusiasm for learning using modern information technologies. We believe that this project will largely change the approach to education in the schools involved,” says Nafisa Gulshaeva, head of the AKF Education Program.

Tcell is the largest telecommunications company in Tajikistan, the only shareholder of which is the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED). TEDx for the first time is in the mountainous Khorog with Tcell!

In the city of Khorog, in the University of Central Asia (UCA), the first international event was held - TEDx, organized by UCA undergraduate students! Tcell became the general sponsor of TEDxUCA, providing an opportunity for creative and innovative speakers of Tajikistan to perform at the global platform for the unique ideas spreading.

The theme of the TEDxUCA event in Khorog was “Encounters at the Edge”. To develop and grow as an individual or as a global society, we need to continually travel to the edge of what is known and comfortable and dare to learn and imagine new things. Five innovative and creative speakers with completely different experience and skills gathered to speak on this topic. They explored how some pivotal person, idea or experience took them to new understandings of reality.

Ozodkhon Davlatshoev, a manager with vast experience in finance, business, strategic planning and risk management, spoke on the topic of “Edgy Technology”. In his speech, Ozodkhon told the audience how much the world of technology and the Internet changes the surrounding reality: in the near future, competition between people and artificial intelligence will become real. Ozodkhon also expressed and proved the idea that each person is part of a large world, and private opinion forms a global opinion, influencing all of humanity. As a result, it is extremely important to be responsible in your communications and to use the Internet resources correctly.

Other speakers at TEDxUCA were: Daler Jumayev (CEO of Pamir Energy) with the idea “Summits of the Unknown”; Sahar Ibrahim (Communications Officer for Aga Khan Education Services – AKES) with the idea “Unplanned Aspirations”; Hadi Husani (CEO for the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat in Central Asia) with the idea “From Poverty to Prosperity”; Furough Shakarmamadova (PECTA Communications Officer) with the idea “Mountains of Opportunity”.

According to the official TED standard, each performance cannot take more than 18 minutes and is more like a solo performance than a lecture. During the speeches, the speakers emotionally and frankly talked about what inspires them.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas. TED is Technology (Technology), Entertainment (Entertainment) and Design (Design), three huge areas that, according to the creators, defined what the future would look like.

The annual TED conferences gather the world's best speakers — writers, politicians, innovators, marketers, sociologists, entrepreneurs, and millions of audiences, thanks to free broadcasts on the Internet. Around the world, TEDx conferences are held in universities, communities, and various cities — independent local self-organized TED-style events.

You can watch TED performances on the official website https://www.ted.com/, on Youtube, or Facebook http://www.facebook.com/TED.
